STUEY Swales is coming back – and that’s great news.
On his last appearance for the team he was as determined and focussed as ever and scored some crucial points.
There was a victory to celebrate too, and we all left hoping that wasn’t his last appearance in the team.
But that’s enough about our Monday night quiz team at the Wheatlands Farm – let’s turn our attention to speedway.
And Stuey (who really did play a key role in our recent quiz victory and has promised to make a return) is the latest rider to commit to the Bears for 2010.
Along with ‘Mad’ Maks Gregoric and Bear of the Year Ben Wilson, he’s asked Brian Havelock to count him in for next season.
Skipper Gary Havelock looks virtually certain to follow too – and Havvy Snr is hard at work putting together the rest of the side.
Names will be released in due course – but the rest of the team looks like it could be pretty tasty too.
But in the meantime let’s look at what we’ve got so far.
Maks was a revelation in is short spell with us at the end of last season.
He’s bound to have fence manufacturers up and down the country rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of extra work – but he’ll pick up and army of new fans and healthy average too.
Stuey’s another thrill-maker. Quiet and unassuming off the track but a box of fireworks on it, he’s another rider who ticks all the right boxes.
Lightning quick out of the gate, Ben had a cracking 2009 season and you wouldn’t bet against him being a points machine again in 2010.
This time last year the talk was whether the club would even survive after the financial hammering it had taken in 2008.
Now we’re looking at a team that is potentially better that achieved Redcar’s highest ever Premier League finish this year.
